Maybe you crossed the Darien, the desert, or you arrived on foot or by boat. The fact is you are here, and you dream of fixing your papers. Did you know if you vote without being an American citizen, that dream can be extinguished forever without a remedy in law?
In 2015, an American resident, married to an American citizen with American-born children, was deported simply because she voted illegally. If you are not a citizen and you registered to vote at a government office but have never voted, you may be protected under the policy known as “official authorization.”
Go to your voter registration office and retract your registration. The consequences of voting illegally are severe. Protect yourself! Don’t let an error extinguish your dreams.

Do not be afraid! You have the right to voluntarily retract your voter registration.
